Title:
PRODUCTION OF COLOR-STABILIZED DIALKYLAMINOETHANOL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3924656
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically obtain a color-stabilized dialkylaminoethanol without discoloration from a dialkylamine and ethylene oxide and useful as an important intermediate in chemical and medicinal industries.
SOLUTION: (A) A dialkylamine of formula I (R1 and R2 are independently a 1-20C alkyl, preferably a 1-8C alkyl, particularly 1-4C alkyl) is allowed to react with (B) ethylene oxide at 95-170°C, preferably at 100-140°C in the presence of water in an amount of 2.5-50wt.% and subjected to distillation at 40-90°C, preferably at 60-85°C, preferably under 5-150mbar, more preferably under 25-150mbar to separate water and high-boiling components at the column bottom to give a hue-stabilized dialkylaminoethanol of formula II. The component A is preferably separated from the column bottom at 55-90°C by distillation. For example, a hue-stabilized dimethylethanolamine is obtained from dimethylamine an ethylene oxide.
