To thermally decompose polypropylene at a lower temp. and recover the resultant oil efficiently by exposing polypropylene contg. zeolite dispersed therein to a radiation.
An easily thermally decomposable polypropylene is produced by exposing polypropylene contg. zeolite dispersed therein to a radiation. Any polypropylene having a number-average mol.wt. of 1.0×104 or higher may be used. The mol.wt. of 9.0×103 or lower gives a molding with lower physical properties and is not pref. The effect in accelerating the thermal decomposition depends on at which step zeolite is brought into contact with polypropylene; when the irradiation and thermal decomposition are conducted after mixing zeolite into polypropylene, the decomposition temp. becomes the lowest and zeolite acts effectively. The lowering in the decomposition temp., occurring at a radiation dose of 30kGy or higher, is marked when the radiation dose is high.
