Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an erbium-doped optical fiber for light amplifier, enabling uniform drying of a solution containing erbium and other additives absorbed in a core layer and effective for shortening the drying time and improving the productivity.
SOLUTION: This process for the production of an erbium-doped optical fiber comprises the uniform heating of a connection tube 22 with a heating source 26 to raise the temperature of the gas 20 in the tube and the passing of the heated gas 20 through a quartz tube 10 to effect the uniform drying of a solution containing erbium 18 and other additives absorbed in a core layer 16.
