Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a fuel tank having increased heat-resistance and decreased fuel transmissivity by covering an outer polyolefin layer of a tank with a polyethylene film containing a flame-retardant and grafting acrylonitrile to the polyethylene film. CONSTITUTION:A film is produced by compounding 100 pts.wt. of a polyethylene having a density of preferably 0.91-0.98g/cm<3> and a melt index of preferably 0.05-10g/10min with 1-100 pts.wt. (preferably 30-70 pts.wt.) of a flame-retardant having polymerizable functional group (e.g. vinyl phosphonate oligomer). The outer polyolefin layer of a fuel tank is covered with the film produced by the above process in the forming of the tank with a base resin. The produced tank is treated with a solution containing >=5wt.% of acrylonitrile and preparatorily or simultaneously irradiated with gamma-ray, electron ray or ultraviolet ray to effect the graft-polymerization of acrylonitrile and the flame-retardant and obtain the objective fuel tank having improved flame-retardance and heat-resistance.
