PURPOSE: To improve the orientation properties and the surface smoothness of magnetic particles by performing the preliminary orientation and the preliminary drying after coating a magnetic coating solution on the surface of a nonmagnetic supporter, carrying out the primary orientation together with the intermediate drying and then performing the primary drying process.
CONSTITUTION: A preliminary orientation magnet 6, a preliminary drying means 7, an intermediate drying means 8 and a primary drying means 9 are successively provided from the side of a coating head 4. A primary orientation magnet 10 is set outside the means 8. A nonmagnetic supporter 1 passes through a position near the magnet 6 with its undried film 5'. In this case, the magnetic particles in the film 5' are orientated. Then the supporter 1 undergoes the preliminary drying through the means 7 and then the primary orientation with the magnet 10 together with the drying process of the means 8. Finally the supporter 1 undergoes the primary drying with the means 9. The residual solvent in the film 5' is dried up to 50W95% amount of solvent in the coating solution in the preliminary drying process and then up to 5W70% in the intermediate drying process. Then it is desirable to dry up the supporter 1 down to ≤5% in the primary drying process.
