Title:
PRODUCTION OF METALLIC CALCIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5956539
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain easily and inexpensively metalic Ca, by bringing Ca and an element having afinity to molten metal into contact with the molten metal to decompose the same and using repeatedly the molten metal dissolved therein with the free element.

CONSTITUTION: The above-mentioned Ca compd., for example, CaC2 4 is added through an addition port 13 into the molten metal, for example, molten iron 2, contained in an independent vessel 1 and is decomposed to generate Ca. Metallic Ca 7 is recovered with a capturing installation 5. On the other hand, the free element C formed by the decomposition is dissolved and absorbed in the iron 2 and the iron 2 is similarly and repeatedly used. The production cost of Ca is thus reduced. However when the concn. of C in the iron 2 increases to about ≥1/2 of the saturation solubility, the reaction of the formula proceeds to the left and therefore gaseous O2 is blown to the molten iron 4 at the point of this time, whereby the dissolved C is converted to an oxide and the molten iron is decarburized.
