To provide a method for simultaneously reducing not only an impurity content but also a hydrogen iodide content and a water content in the obtained reaction product by especially decreasing the reaction efficiency for carbonylation.
This method for producing an organic carboxylic acid comprising a carbonylation step for carrying out the carbonylation reaction of a raw material for the carbonylation reaction with carbon monoxide in a reaction solvent in the presence of a carbonylation reaction catalyst, an alkyl iodide and water comprises (i) using a rhodium catalyst fixed on a nitrogen-containing insoluble resin carrier as the carbonylation reaction catalyst, (ii) regulating the amount of water in the reaction system so as to be 0.5-10wt.% in the reaction mixture, and further (iii) regulating the partial pressure of the hydrogen and the carbon monoxide so as to be 0.1-5kg/cm2 and 7-30kg/cm2, respectively, and the reaction temperature so as to be 140-250°C.
