PURPOSE: To improve crystallizability, purity and evenness of qualities by hydrothermally treating a mixture of a ceramics base material and a hydroxide at a given temperature and then coating a surface of the base material with an oxide containing the above hydroxide.
CONSTITUTION: A ceramics base material (A) is obtained by selecting from alumina, mullite, etc. A hydroxide (B) is obtained by adjusting a pH (ca. pH 4) of an aqueous suspension of Zr (OH)4, etc., selected form hydroxides such as Zr, Ti, etc. Then, a mixture obtained by mixing components A and B are put in an autoclave and subjected to hydrothermal reaction at 80°C ≤ temperature ≤ critical temperature (e.g. in the case where the component B is Zr: at 80-300°C, 1-100kg/cm2.G). The reaction system is cooled and the reacted material is taken out to produce oxide coated ceramics having the surface of A base material coated with an oxide such as ZrO2.
