To develop a method for producing an aqueous pigment dispersion excellent in the dispersion stability of fine pigment particles at a low cost to inexpensively provide the aqueous pigment dispersion to uses requiring the fine particles and using the aqueous pigment dispersion, such as aqueous coating materials, aqueous inks, printing materials, automotive coating materials, color filters and jet inks.
This method for producing a pigment composition comprises a process for mixing a coarse pigment or a coarse ground pigment obtained by grinding the coarse pigment in a dry state with a carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin alkali salt and water and/or an aqueous solvent, a process for mechanically dispersing the obtained mixture, a process for adding an acid to the obtained dispersion to deposit the resin to the pigment, and a process for adding an alkali to the obtained deposits to reneutralize the deposits.
