PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of the title device in removing the nitrogen in sewage by providing an anaerobic tank, an aerobic tank, a means for returning the water treated in the aerobic tank to the anaerobic tank, a means for detecting the oxidation-reduction potential in the anaerobic tank, and a means for controlling the water to be returned based on the detection value to the device.
CONSTITUTION: The sewage is passed through the first and second chambers 22 and 24 of the anaerobic 3 bed 12, wherein the org. matter is decomposed and nitrogen is removed. The sewage is then passed through the first and second chambers 26 and 28 of the aerobic 3 bed 14, nitrated therein, and introduced into a settling basin 16. A part of the water in the settling basin is returned to the first chamber 22 of the anaerobic 3 bed 12 by a pump 20, and denitrified. In the anaerobic 3 bed 12 of such a constitution, a sensor 62 for measuring the oxidation-reduction potential in the first chamber 22 is provided, and a control circuit 64 for controlling the pump 20 based on the signal outputted from the sensor 62 is furnished. Namely, when the oxidation-reduction potential inputted from the sensor 62 becomes lower than the lower-limit value, the pump 20 is operated by the control circuit 62, and the pump is stopped when the potential becomes higher than the upper-limit value. The denitrification in the anaerobic 3 bed 12 is thus optimized.
