To provide a radio transmitter for use in a communication system which requires compliance with specified distortion limits.
The radio transmitter includes a power amplifier and further includes a circuit for determining a relative distortion level in an output signal, comparing the relative distortion level with a reference distortion level and controlling a bias input of the power amplifier on the basis of the comparison. The bias input can be controlled so that the relative distortion level is equal to the reference distortion level, the reference distortion level can be set to ensure a required adjacent channel leakage power ratio (ACLR) to be satisfied on the basis of the required ACLR and at the same time, it is ensured that power consumption of the amplifier does not increase unnecessarily.
