Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to precisely focus a camera or video by switching the range finding range by arithmetic processing using the correlation value of a prescribed part of a subject signal sequence obtained by a pair of light receiving element trains having a parallax.
SOLUTION: In the passive type range finding device used for camera, first, a correlation area such as sensor array is designated (S1), and a correlation operation for examining slippage by sensor pitch unit is performed (S2) to provide a correlation result S. When S is larger than a prescribed value S1, it is judged that a subject is near (S3), and an interpolation operation for calculating the slippage by finer resolution is performed in a wide area (S16) to calculate the distance (S11). When S is smaller than a prescribed value 31, the interpolation operation is performed in a prescribed method with respect to a narrow correlation area (S4-8). When the operation result does not satisfy a prescribed condition, S is corrected (S13-15), and the procedure is returned to S3. When the prescribed condition is satisfied, the distance is calculated according to the operation result (S10-11), and focusing is performed (S12).
