Abstract:

PURPOSE: To practically recognize various three-dimensional objects of different shapes and sizes by a method wherein the shape of an object is recognized by using normalized-shape information which has normalized shape information in the direction of a depth and the direction of a plane.
CONSTITUTION: In an ultrasonic sensor array 31, ultrasonic sensors used for both transmission and reception are arranged lengthwise and breadthwise at prescribed intervals. A video camera 32 which is composed of a CCD image sensor photographs an object, to be recognized, from a hole 31a in the central part of the ultrasonic sensor array 31. An object 33 as the object to be recognized is placed on a measuring face 34 to be used as a criterion plane. Then, a normalization part 35 extracts depth information on the object from distance information on the object 33 as the object, to be recognized, by the ultrasonic sensor array 31, and it extracts shape information, in the transverse direction, on the object from image information on the object by the video camera 32 so as to be normalized. A shape-recognition neural network 36 is constituted of an input layer 36a, an intermediate layer 36b and an output layer 36c, and it recognizes a shape on the basis of the shape information which has been normalized by the normalization part 35.
