To provide a recorder capable of printing with high image quality while securing productivity.
The ink jet recorder comprises a drum 104 provided with recording heads 44Y-44K corresponding to the sheet width and performing printing with respective colors. An image is formed with high image quality on a sheet attracted electrostatically to a drum 104 by ejecting ink drops from each recording head 44. Since a maintenance section 28 is provided on the drum 104, it can be arranged oppositely to the recording head 44 and productivity can be enhanced by quickening maintenance operation. Furthermore, high speed printing is achieved by switching print mode to pass the sheet under the recording head 44 only once, and printing with high image quality is realized by passing the sheet under the recording head a plurality of times while being attracted electrostatically to the drum 104 and ejecting small ink drops having a small quantity of ink as compared with a normal ink drop a plurality of times.
