To provide a reproducing apparatus which can output an image at a plurality of frame frequencies and can prevent a video signal from being abruptly interrupted during reproduction.
The reproducing apparatus for outputting an image as a mixed signal of a 60 Hz period and a 24 Hz period includes: a mode setting section 16 which sets, as an operation mode, one of "fixing mode" for fixing an output at 60 Hz and "variable mode" for changing the output to 60 Hz or 24 Hz; an output frequency setting section 18 which receives from a user an instruction to change the output to 60 Hz or 24 Hz in a period for outputting a signal in the variable mode; and a switch control circuit 19 for switching an image output of a first mode for outputting the signal of the 60 Hz period and the 24 Hz period at 60 Hz to an image output of a second mode for outputting the signal of the 60 Hz period and the 24 Hz period at 24 Hz when receiving an instruction to change the output to 24 Hz, and switching the image output from the second mode to the first mode when receiving an instruction to change the output to 60 Hz.
