To obtain a coating material for coating optical fiber which has high curing performance affording sufficient curing by low radiation quantity in order to attain processibility at high speed, which can satisfy mechanical characteristics and transmission characteristics necessary even when used for a primary coating layer or for an unitized layer and which is excellent in toughness and temperature characteristics.
The resin composition for coating optical fiber contains a urethane (meth)acrylate consisting of a polyether polyol, a polyisocyanate compound and a (meth)acrylic acid ester having hydroxyl group. The polyther polyol is obtained by polymerizing a 3-18C alkylene oxide in the presence of a composite metal cyanide complex, has side chains consisting of an alkyl group in repetitive units and has number average molecular weight in a range of 7,500 to 20,000.
