PURPOSE: To make a battery thin by melt-bonding a pair of container plates to both openings of container frames.
CONSTITUTION: Titanium nitride layers 3, 3' are formed on the insides of con tainer plates 2, 2' made of tin, zinc, nickel, or copper plated steel or stainless steel, and current collecting layers 4, 4' made of lead or lead alloy are formed on the portions, where are in contact with active material, of the layers 3, 3'. Synthetic resin films 5, 5' are laminated in frame shape in the peripheries of the container plates 2, 2' so that they are heat-bonded with a container frame to seal a battery. A positive active material layer 6 or a negative active material 7 are formed on the surface of the current collecting layer 4, 4' by pouring, coating, or forming. A pair of positive and negative container plates are faced and a separator 8 made of glass fiber mat and a container frame 1 are interposed between them, then the container plates are sealed by heat- bonding. Since electrode posts are eliminated, the container frame is made thin.
