PURPOSE: To increase the discharge performance and the life performance of a sealed lead storage battery, simplify its structure and enable it to be manufactured at a low cost by installing a plural number of plate groups, the side surface and bottom surfaces except the top surfaces of which are solidified with an acid-proof resin, in a container having no diaphragms.

CONSTITUTION: A plate group has positive plates 1, negative plates 2 and separators 3 consisting of fine glass fiber mats. After a positive and a negative strap 4 and 5 are welded to the positive lugs and the negative lugs of the plate group, its side surfaces and bottom surface except the top surface are solidified with an acid-proof ABS resin 6. Here, a jig or the like is used to fix the plate group beforehand in such a manner as to apply a pressure of 5∼20kg/dm2 to the plate group. Next, a plural number of plate groups are installed in a container 7 having no diaphragms, then the positive and the negative straps 4 and 5 are welded to form cell connection parts 8. After that, the plate groups are impregnated with electrolyte to nonfluidize it before a battery lid is stuck to the container.
