To provide a seat belt retractor whereby a seat belt set on the occupant is no more drawn out unnecessarily and which can generate the automatic retracting mode of high reliability.
The retractor for the seat belt is equipped with a belt reel, an eccentric disc coupled with the belt reel, a cam disc driven by the eccentric disc, and a blocking pawl. The blocking pawl blocks a toothed ratchet in the blocking position and leaves the ratchet out of influence in the disengaged position. By the cam disc the blocking pawl is turned from the disengage position to the blocking position and vice versa. In order to hold this belt retractor irrespective of the allowable error, the cam disc is furnished with an engaging cam to make engagement in the blocking position of the blocking pawl and a disengaging cam to make engagement in the disengage position of the blocking pawl.
