Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device which solves the problems that, along with high definition of a display device, the number of pixels is increased, thus the number of gate lines and the number of signal lines are increased, if the number of gate lines and the number of signal lines are increased, it is difficult to mount an IC chip having a drive circuit for driving the gate lines and the signal lines by bonding or the like, thereby manufacturing costs increase.SOLUTION: A semiconductor device has a pixel portion and a drive circuit for driving the pixel portion formed on the same substrate. At least a part circuit of the drive circuit is formed using an inverted staggered thin film transistor in which an oxide semiconductor is used and a channel protective layer is provided over the oxide semiconductor layer serving as a channel formation region which is overlapped with a gate electrode layer. The drive circuit as well as the pixel portion is provided over the same substrate, thereby reducing manufacturing costs.
