To reduce collision sound when a cloth pressing body is controlled to the bottom dead point position at the time of lowering a needle bar and the collision sound of the stopper and the abutting part of the cloth pressing body at the time of elevating the needle bar and to reduce the generation of noise at the time of the high-speed operation of a sewing machine.
In this sewing machine for which a driving shaft 40 for driving the needle bar is arranged in the front and back directions of the sewing machine to the inner part of a sewing machine arm 10, a supporting body 64 capable of receiving an engagement part 36 fixed to the cloth pressing body 30 from the lower side is provided so as to be vertically driven between an upper limit position and a lower limit position synchronized with the vertical drive of the needle bar 14. Then, at the time of lowering the needle bar 14, the supporting body 64 receives the engagement part 36 of the cloth pressing body 30 from the upper limit position to the lower limit position and is lowered so as to control the bottom dead point of the cloth pressing body 30 at the lower limit position. At the time of elevating the needle bar 14, the supporting body 64 starts to rise from the lower limit position to the upper limit position before the stopper (needle holder 22) of the needle bar 14 is abutted to the abutting part 32 of the cloth pressing body 30 controlled at the bottom dead point.
