To provide a signal processor capable of obtaining a reliable effective value of an alternating current signal by a relatively simple signal processing circuit.
This signal processor 1 comprises an A/D conversion circuit 2 for converting an analogue alternating current signal into a digital alternating current signal, a square computing circuit 3 for computing a square value of a level value based on the digital alternating current signal output from the A/D conversion circuit 2 to generate a digital signal expressing the square value, a digital filter 4 for extracting a signal of a direct current component out of the digital signal output from the square computing circuit 3, and a square root computing circuit 5 for computing square root of the level value of the digital signal, using the digital signal output from the digital filter 4 to generate a digital signal indicating a square root value therein.
