To provide a silver halide photographic sensitive material capable of making the enhancement of sharpness and the reduction of residual color compatible even in the case of developing treatment at a low pH preferable from the environmental point of view, and the method for the treatment.
This silver halide photographic sensitive material has at least one dye capable of being decolored in a development treatment process for reducing crossover light, which is fixed in such state that the dye has an absorption maximum in the wavelength range of 500-600 nm and the optical transmission density at the wavelength of 550 nm shows three times or more of the transmission density at the wavelength of 450 nm, on at least one layer of a photosensitive layer or a non- photosensitive layer provided on at least one side of a transparent support and has photosensitive layers containing spectrally sensitized silver halide particles on the both sides of the transparent support. The photosensitive layer provided on at least one side of the transparent support has such photosensitive property that the logarithm of the ratio of the light exposure of monochromatic light having the wavelength of 450 nm to the light exposure of the monochromatic light having the wavelength of 550 nm giving a fixed developed silver density, is at least 0.8. The photographic sensitive material is treated at a pH not less than 7 but not exceeding 10.
