PURPOSE: To obtain a sizing agent composition excellent in adsorption efficiency and showing a non-accumulating property by adding a hardly water soluble quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant at a maturing time in performing an emulsion copolymerization of a vinyl monomer and a vinylic unsaturated carboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: This sizing agent composition consisting of a cationic emulsion and having a good stability is obtained by performing an emulsion polymerization of a vinyl monomer (e.g.; vinyl acetate and an acrylic acid ester) with (meth)acrylic acid, etc., as a vinylic unsaturated carboxylic acid, then maturing to obtain a copolymer emulsion, and adding a hardly water soluble quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant e.g. dilauryldimethylammonium chloride and di-hardened tallow alkyldimethylammonium chloride therein in the above maturing period. The sizing agent is excellent in adsorption efficiency, imparts a good tension and hardness to a fiber and also is excellent in a non- accumulating property.
