PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration in the S/N at a part of a reproduction pattern and appearance of interfering noise band by providing 4 sets of double azimuth heads and selecting and synthesizing only large outputs.

CONSTITUTION: Double azimuth heads l-4 having opposite azimuth angles on a rotary head cylinder 5 and scanning same track are provided. Moreover, 1st and 2nd switching circuits 7, 8 are provided which select one set of outputs of the 4 sets of double azimuth heads 1-4. Furthermore, a 3rd switching circuit 9 is provided, which selects and synthesizes only larger outputs of the magnetic heads scanning sequentially the recording track. Thus, only the output when the recording track and the azimuth direction of the magnetic head are coincident is selected and synthesized. Then the production of a part in the reproduction video image with remarkably deteriorated S/N and of interfering noise band is avoided and the special reproduction of the high quality video image is attained with easy to see picture as a whole.
