PURPOSE: To avoid the adhesion of paint powder spattering from the lower end of a masking plate onto a part not to be coated, by arranging a secondary masking plate between the masking plate and an article to be coated.
CONSTITUTION: A masking member 4 is arranged at a predetermined position by a drive means. Paint is sprayed onto the bottom part 2 of an article 1 to be coated at an injection angle θ through a coating gun 7, and the coating gun is concurrently carried along the longitudinal direction of the article 1 to be coated at a speed corresponding to the formation of paint film of a preset thickness. The atomized paint is adhered onto the bottom part 2 of the article to be coated at an injection angle θ2, and a paint part 3 within an injection angle θ1 intercepted by the first masking plate 5 is accumulated on the edge 9 of the first masking plate 5. When the accumulated paint forms drops and spatters, the secondary masking plate 6 catches the diffusion of the paint spatter and prevents overspray onto a part 8 not to be coated.
