To provide a stereoscopic image display device capable of improving the effects of an advertisement or the like by displaying 2D images on a display screen so that the images can be viewed from a far place when an object exists in the far place and displaying 3D images when the object approaches the display screen.
In the parallax type stereoscopic image display device 30 provided with a liquid crystal parallax barrier 38 arranged in the front of a picture display device 37, the position of the object is detected by a distance sensor 32, and when the object exists in the outside of a prescribed range, voltage to be impressed to the liquid crystal parallax barrier 38 is set to 2D image display voltage. When the object exists in the prescribed range, 3D image display voltage is set. When the object exists in the outside of position suitable for viewing 3D images, the screen is set to bright 2D image display, and when the object enters into the position suitable for viewing 3D images, the screen is turned to 3D image display.
