Abstract:

To shorten restoration time or to minimize the number of recording/ reproducing devices used for restoration so as not to obstruct a processing to other media at the time of a medium fault in a library device provided with the redundant array constitution of portable media.

In the library device for constituting a redundant array by the plural media 20, a standby medium is loaded to a standby drive 22 at all times, and at the time of the medium fault, data restoration is quickly performed without carrying the standby medium from a storage container 21. Or a nonvolatile storage device such as a disk device 220 or the like is provided other than the plural recording/reproducing devices, and at the time of the medium fault, it is replaced by using the disk device 220 as the standby medium.
