NEW MATERIAL:A substituted pyrrolidine-2,5-dione derivative of formula I (R1 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or furylalkyl group; R2 is fromula II, etc., R3 is H or methyl group; R4 is XC≡C, etc. when R3 is H, and methyl group when R3 is methyl group; X is Cl or Br).
EXAMPLE: 1-Benzyl-3-[ 2,2-dimethyl-3-( 2,2-dichlorovinyl )cyclopropane-carbonyloxy]pyrrolidine-2,5-dione.
USE: An agricultural chemical.
PROCESS: Malic acid of formula III and a monosubstituted amine of formula IV are dehydrated by heating to give a malic imide of formula V. An acid chloride solution in benzene is mixed with an almost equimolar amount of the malic imide of formula V, and then 1W3mol equivalents of pyridine, and the mixture is stirred overnight at room temperature to afford the compound of formula I.
