PURPOSE: To obtain a new sulfonylated triazinecarboxamide and its salts useful as defoliants, desiccants and disrupting agents for broad-leaved trees, in particular weed killers, that is, herbicides.
CONSTITUTION: This sulfonylated triazinecarboxamide represented by formula I [where (n) is 0 or 1; A is O, methylene, NH or an n-alkyl; R is an aryl or a heteroaryl; and X and Y are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an alkylthio, an aryl or a heteroaryl], e.g. N-(2-phenyl-phenylsulfonyl)-5,6- dimethyl-1,2,4-triazine-3-carboxamide of formula II is obtd. by reacting a triazinecarboxylic acid of formula III with a sulfonamide of formula IV or its reactive derivs. The compd. of formula I is used for selectively controlling monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weeds in a field of a monocotyledonous cultivated plant such as wheat mainly by a pre-germination method.
