A suspension_ECU 20 sets the damping force characteristics of shock absorbers 4fl, 4fr, 4rl, 4rr according to |(d2y/dt2)|/|(d2zs/dt2)|, and outputs the drive signal such as the duty signal to actuators 22fl, 22fr, 22rl, 22rr via a drive circuit 21 so as to realize the optimum damping factors of the shock absorbers 4fl, 4fr, 4rl, 4rr based on the sprung vertical acceleration (d2zs/dt2) and the unsprung vertical acceleration (d2zu/dt2). When any winding travel is detected, or the sport mode is ON, or when the operation of the kick-down is detected, the damping force characteristics of the shock absorbers 4fl, 4fr, 4rl, 4rr are set to the preset high damping force characteristics.
