PURPOSE: To obtain a three-phase synchronous motor employing permanent magnets and utilizing the reluctance torque by providing salient poles in which steep variation in the density of flux passing through the salient pole is prevented as the motor rotates.
CONSTITUTION: At the abutting part of a permanent magnet 51 and a salient pole 71, the inner peripheral end part of the permanent magnet 51 is rounded at a predetermined radius of curvature and the outer circumferential end part of the salient pole 71 is rounded at a predetermined curvature. Consequently, the flux passing through the salient pole 71 passes through the corner of the permanent magnet 51 easily and variation in the density of flux passing the back side in the rotational direction of the salient pole 71 is suppressed. This structure prevents steep variation of flux density at the salient pole 71 and suppresses energy loss due to steep variation of flux density and heating. The outer circumferential end part of the salient pole may not be rounded but may be composed of a low permeability member.
