Abstract:

To obtain a tape printer for printing on a long label tape produced by arranging a print medium, i.e. a label, for printing characters or symbols separably on a stripping tape in which a character string having a print width wider than that of the label can be printed on the label tape.

The tape printer comprises a means for detecting the width of a label, a means for making a decision whether a character string to be printed falls within the width of the label based on detection information from the label width detecting means, and a print size adjusting means for reducing the character string when a decision is made that the character string does not fall within the width of the label.
