PURPOSE: To test exactly the rare gas adsorptive power of activated carbon by providing a device for measuring concn. of the rare gas which measures the concn. of the non-radioactive rare gas passed through activated carbon type rare gas hold-up columns while adsorbed by the activated carbon.
CONSTITUTION: A prescribed amt. of gaseous Kr is fed from a gaseous Kr tank 8 to the upper stream of the activated carbon type rare gas hold-up device 1 set preliminarily under test conditions by closing a gate valve V6 and opening gate valves V4', V4 from the state in which the gate valves V5, V6, V3 and a flow rate control valve V2 are held open. A specified flow rate of the gaseous Kr is fed into said device if the tank 8 is preliminarily evacuated by a suction pump 6. The gaseous Kr is conducted to the down stream while receiving a hold-up effect in the respective hold-up columns 3, 3... and is sampled to a gas chromatograph 9 from a sample 10 at prescribed time intervals, by which the concn. of the gaseous Kr is measured. The rare gas adsorption power of the activated carbon is evaluated from the change of the concn. with the lapse of time.
