PURPOSE: To provide a coating system containing a specified linear carboxyl- functional polyester resin as a binder resin and having good storage stability, flow leveling, mechanical properties, weathering stability, ultraviolet stability, and deterioration stability.
CONSTITUTION: A coating system is provided which is based on a carboxyl- functional polyester resin and a crosslinking agent comprising a polyfunctional epoxy compound and/or a β-hydroxylamide, etc., and comprises the bases and a binder resin being a linear carboxyl-functional polyester resin comprising a difunctional monomer component comprising (A) at most 10 pts. mol isophthalic acid, (B) at least 90 pts. mol at least another dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of 8-16C aromatic dicarboxylic acids, 6-22C aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, and 8-16C aliphatic dicarboxylic acids (e.g. terephthalic acid, sebacic acid or the like), (C) at least 50 pt. mol branched aliphtic diol (e.g. 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol), and (D) at most 50 pts. mol 2-22C linear aliphatic diol and/or 6-16C alicyclic diol.
