Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head and a manufacturing method for the same which are capable of forming a track width especially into a specified size with high accuracy, of dealing with narrow tracking appropriately, and of improving recording properties by shortening a length of a magnetic path.
SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head has a coil layer 35 formed in a space surrounded by a lower part core layer 29, a protruding layer 32 and a back gap layer 33. Tops of the protruding layer, a coil insulation layer and the back gap layer are planarized to a continuous flat surface, and a lower magnetic pole layer 39, a gap layer 40, an upper magnetic pole layer 41 and an upper core layer 42 are formed on the flat surface. By enabling the upper magnetic pole layer and the upper core layer to form on the flat surface, it can become easier to form these four layers in a predetermined shape with precision and to form in a predetermined dimension the track width Tw decided by the width in a surface facing a recording medium of the upper magnetic pole layer 41. Also, the recording properties can be improved while the length of the magnetic path can be shortend.
