Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an economical and inexpensive water treatment agent especially excellent in the sterilizing effect of Legionella bacteria in minute concn. by adding a phosphonium compd. represented by a specific general formula and hydrazine as effective components.

CONSTITUTION: This water treatment agent for sterilization is constituted by adding a phosphonium compd. represented by general formula (wherein R is a non-substituted group or a phenyl group substituted with one or more of a cyano group, a hydroxy group, an esterified hydroxy group or a 1-4C alkyl group substituted with an aryl group, R1 is an 8-18C alkyl group and X is a chlorine atom or a bromine atom) and hydrazine as effective components. As the phosphonium compd., tri-n-butyltetradecylphosphonium chloride is designated. By this constitution, the water treatment agent especially excellent in the sterilizing effect of Legionella bacteria in minute concn. is obtained.
