PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound having an excellent herbicide effect on paddy field weeds as well as plowed land weeds and not damaging the useful crops.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [R1, R2 are each H, a lower alkyl, R3 is a lower alkyl, a lower alkenyl, a lower alkynyl or CH2CH2YR4 (R4 is a lower alkyl or a lower alkenyl; Y is O or S), etc.; X is a halogen], e.g. 2-[2',4'- dibromo-3'-(2,2-dimethoxyethoxy)benzoyl]-1,3-cyclohexane dione. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a cyclohexane diode derivative of formula II with a benzoylhalide derivative of formula III (Z is a halogen) in the presence of a dehydrogen halide agent (e.g. triethylamine) to obtain a compound of formula IV, and then by reacting it in the presence of a cyanide group donor (e.g. acetone cyanohydrin).
