PURPOSE: An agricultural and horticultural fungicide comprising a specific 5- methyl-2-pyrazoline derivative as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: The titled fungicide containing a compound shown by the formula I [Z is R1CO, R2R3NCO, R4NHCS, R5OCO, R6SCO, R7SO2, R8R9N-SO2, or group shown by the formula II; R1 is (substituted)alkyl, or (substituted) aryl; R2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.; R3 is H, or alkyl, R4 is (substituted)alkyl, or alkenyl; R5 and R6 are alkyl; R7 is alkyl, or (lower) aryl; R8 and R9 are alkyl or linked to form alkhlene; X is halogen or R10NH(R10 is alkyl)] such as 1-dichloroacetyl-5- methyl-2-pyrazoline, as an active ingredient. The compound shown by the formula I is obtained by reacting 5-methyl-2-pyrazoline with an acid halide, an acid anhydride, a halocarbonic acid (thio)ester, etc. in the presence of a proper base optionally in an inert solvent.
