PURPOSE: To obtain high conductivity, conductivity at low temperatures and chemical stability by firing a specified composition so that the fired composition may have K2NiF4 crystal structure.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonate or a nitrate of Ba is blended with a powdery Pb oxide and a powdery Sn oxide so that a prescribed chemical composition may be obtained. The obtained mixture is fired in an alumina crucible at about 1000°C for about 50hr and the resultant fired material is then pulverized and molded to obtain a pellet having about 1mm diameter and about 2mm thickness. The resultant pellet is subsequently subjected to glost firing in an atmosphere of O2 at about 1200°C for about 50hr, thus producing the objective oxide ion conductive material consisting of a composition of the formula (A is at least one member selected from Ca, Sr and Ba; B is at least one member selected from Ti, Sn, Mn, Mo, Ru, Ir, Rh, Pb and Bi) and having a crystalline structure of K2NiF4.
