Title:
PRODUCTION OF TERTIARY AMINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6115865
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a rust preventive, in high yield and catalytic activity and selectivity, without producing by-products, by reacting an alcohol, etc. with a primary amine, etc. under specific conditions, in the presence of a catalyst consisting of copper, nickel and a platinum-group element of the group VIII of the periodic table.

CONSTITUTION: A tertiary amine is produced by reacting (A) an alcohol or an aldehyde with (B) a primary amine or a secondary amine in the presence of (C) a catalyst consisting of copper, nickel and a platinum-group element of the group VIII (e.g. Pt, Pd, etc.) at 150W250°C under atmospheric pressure or ≤5 atm (gauge) while removing water produced by the reaction. The ratio of copper to the sum of Ni and platinum-group element in the catalyst is arbitrary, however, it is preferably e.g. 1:9W9:1. The molar ratio of the platinum-group element to the sum of copper and nickel is preferably 0.001W0.1.
