Title:
FILM COOLING TYPE FUEL BATTERY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5931568
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
A fuel cell battery containing membranes is characterised by an improved current distribution for the reactants and an improved heat removal. Internally cooled bipolar units for determining the reagent flow separate the ion-exchanger membranes of adjacent cells from one another. The coolant flows through the interior of the separator in such a way that one side of it is cooled to a greater extent than the other. The colder side of the separator is in contact with the fuel side of a membrane, while the hotter side of the adjacent separator is in contact with the oxidising agent side. The resultant temperature difference across the membrane minimises the drying-out of the fuel side of the hydrated cell membranes.
