Title:
SODIUM-SULFUR BATTERY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6017868
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove impurity in sodium and provide long life by filling glass- state amorphous carbon in sodium of a sodium-sulfur battery.

CONSTITUTION: Porous or net glass-state amorphous carbon 19 and 20 are arranged on sodium side of a sodium-sulfur battery. Since porous glass-state amorphous carbon is arranged on whole inner surface of a solid electrolyte 3, sodium is smoothly supplied to solid electrolyte by capillary action and surface utilization rate is increased. Sodium from a sodium reservoir 24 to solid electrolyte is supplied through a path from glass-state amorphous carbon 19 to 20 by utilizing capillary action. By this process, almost all of potassium contained in sodium is captured in the bottom of the amorphous carbon 19. Therefore, since potassium in sodium is removed, breakage of solid electrolyte is prevented.
