Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner supply roll having a greatly enhanced toner scraping-off performance on a developing roll and offer a method of manufactur ing such toner supply rolls favorably, whereby it is practicable to eliminate fuzzing of the roll surface and also unstableness in toner transporting amount, ensure good dimensional accuracy, solve problem of durability or inclusion of foreign matter, and suppress or eliminate partial change of the roll hardness resulting from intrusion of the toner.
SOLUTION: This toner supply roll 26 is composed of a core metal 32 and a soft polyurethane foam layer 34 whose hardness is below 350g and which has a skin layer 36 at the periphery, and cells 38 right under the skin layer are left open to the outside by opening part 40 having a diameter of 100-800 μm, wherein the total area of the opening part is over 20% of the surface of the skin layer. The peripheral surface of the polyurethane foam layer is given a surface unevenness by a plurality of ridges which stretch straight in the roll axial direction and have a height between 20 and 3,000 μm and a pitch in roll circumferential direction as ranging 300 to 3,000 μm.
