Abstract:

To provide an efficient multiple description transcoding node method.

The transcoding node comprises: an optimizing unit operative to determine transcoding parameters for descriptions to be transmitted using a first transmission protocol and a second transmission protocol of a datablock, wherein the optimizing unit is further operative to determine the transcoding parameters based on an expected distortion when transmitted via the first and second communication protocols; a packet generating unit operative to generate a first sequence of packets for the first description and a second sequence of packets for the second description in response to the transcoding parameters; a first transmitting unit operative to transmit the first sequence of packets according to the first communication protocol; and a second transmitting unit operative to transmit the second sequence of packets according to the second communication protocol.
