PURPOSE: To provide a twin roll type continuous casting apparatus for enabling the production of a cast slab having good edge part shape by restraining the development of local erosion in a side weir plate as little as possible.
CONSTITUTION: In the continuous casting apparatus providing one pair of casting rolls 1 rotated in mutually reverse direction so as to guide molten metal 6 poured from the upper part downward while cooling and solidifying and one pair of the side weir plates 2 for preventing leakage of the molten metal from the edge parts of the rolls by interposing these one pair of rolls 1 between both side parts, the side weir plate 2 is composed of a ceramic material containing AlN. Further, the content of AlN is desirable to be 3-15wt.% and the ceramic material contains 55-77wt.% Si3N4 and 20-30wt.% BN. By this method, the service life of the side weir plate is extended and the continuous casting quantity per one time is increased and the productivity of the steel strip comes to improve. Further, the development of trouble of bad winding in a coiler is avoided.
