Abstract:
To detect even defects existing very near the bottom surface of an object by preventing the detection of defects mistaken for echoes from the bottom surface in the ultrasonic flaw detection.
Individual beam courses of bottom surface echoes and defect echoes are measured and a comparison is made between the courses of the defect echoes and the bottom surface echoes thus measured. When the both satisfy a specified relationship, defects are determined but otherwise, no defects are determined.
