Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new protein capable of imparting an aluminum-responding malic acid-transporting function to a plant and a gene encoding the same.
SOLUTION: The new ALMT1-1 gene derived from wheat and ALMT1-1 protein encoded by the gene are obtained. The ALMT1-1 protein is a transporting protein and releasing malic acid to the outside of a cell by being activated with aluminum ion. Since the malic acid forms a complex with the aluminum ion for inactivating the aluminum ion, the ALMT1-1 protein is associated with an aluminum resistance of a plant. Therefore, by using the ALMT1-1 gene encoding the ALMT1-1 protein, it is considered to be able to impart the aluminum ion resistance to the plant.
