PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of driving property by selecting the control characteristic of a vehicle by means of the output of a self vehicle position detecting means and road information which is recorded in a navigation device and controlling the vehicle by means of the selected control characteristic.
SOLUTION: A vehicle controller is constituted of the self position detecting means 11, a control characteristic deciding means 13 deciding the control characteristic by the output of a map information recording device 12, a running state detecting means 14 consisting of an accelerator opening degree sensor and a vehicle speed sensor, etc., and a control means 15 controlling an automatic gearbox 16 in accordance with the output of the control characteristic deciding means 13. The map information recording device 12 stores the connection state of an area where the respective control characteristics are applied and the adjacent area and control characteristic information is outputted to the control characteristic deciding means 13 by the output of the self vehicle position detecting means 11. Thus, a malfunction where the self vehicle running area changes by measurement difference so as to execute change-over to the control characteristic of the adjacent area is prevented and the deterioration of driving property is prevented.
