This vehicle running controller comprises a desired speed setting means, a desired inter-vehicle distance setting means, and a running controlling means. The vehicle running controller further comprises a road situation receiving means capable of receiving a road situation in the own vehicle traveling direction from a transmitter installed on the road side, a desired inter-vehicle distance correcting means for correcting the desired inter-vehicle distance in response to the road situation from the road situation receiving means, a determining means of an inter-vehicle distance settable range for determining a settable range of the desired inter-vehicle distance setting means when the correction of the desired inter-vehicle distance is required, and a displaying means of an inter-vehicle distance settable range for displaying the inter-vehicle distance settable range determined by the determining means of the inter-vehicle distance settable range.
